Egidio Siena, through his lifelong passion for the sea and for sustainability, founded the Lacote GUAM® group in 1986.
Fascinated with the boats full of seaweed gathered in the cold depths of the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Brest, he came to understand its extraordinary benefits for cosmetic products and began studying its properties and effects together with a group of academics from various Italian universities.

Seaweed, of which over 30,000 species are known to us, draws on the wealth of the sea. It concentrates the properties of the marine environment up to 50,000 times and contains a vast number of exceptionally powerful natural active ingredients. Seaweed also has a significant effect on neurogenesis (the formation of new neurons), as well as on longevity in the regulation our cardiovascular, metabolic, and immune systems. Recent studies have also shown that marine algae can promote natural collagen formation.

Each year, beginning in the early summer months, Lacote gathers seaweed using a traditional tool, the scoubidou
which leaves the seaweed’s bulb intact while harvesting, avoiding damage to the sea floor. After the seaweed
is harvested, it is spread out in fields near the beach to dry out in the sun and ocean wind. Next, it is blended and ground
up using cold processes to preserve the wealth of oligoelements, vitamins, and active metabolites.

The result is a precious “flour”, which is combined with other plant ingredients to create the famous GUAM® Seaweed Mud. This natural product is beloved among women for its ability to immediately reduce cellulite and fat deposits.
